Sidereal Virgo season marks a time of season change: Where I am in the US northeast, the heat of the summer season is beginning to fade and transition into the cooler months of autum. In agricultural terms, Virgo season is time to plant seedlings into the ground for the final growing season and to prepare for the harvest. In terms of the collective, Virgo season is time to gather, count, measure, sort, and analyze what we have experienced and achieved this year. This is a time to process together and take account of whether we are on the right path, making the right decisions and to assess whether our efforts are yielding positive results.

The Sun will make some challenging aspects to Neptune and Saturn, bringing challenges or confusion in relationships. These challenges aren’t to deter you, but to force you to focus on the issue at hand and take it seriously. This Virgo season will bring us into confrontation with obsessive behavior, deception  and emotional chaos (when the Sun opposes Neptune on 9/25). Navigating this emotional chaos requires a willingness to transcend your personality needs in favor of the collective (when the Sun opposes Saturn on 10/4).

Relationships, social cohesion/norms and how we relate to others all come up for review once Venus stations retrograde 10/3 and appears to move backwards in the sky. Venus will join Saturn, Neptune, Pluto and Uranus in retrograde motion this season. This retrograde dominance in the sky reminds us that while eclipse season is over, its not yet time to move forward. Progress requires reflection and integration of the lessons learned.

In the background, Venus and Mercury, both in sidereal Libra, form tense aspects to Pluto retrograde and Mars in Cancer, with Pluto and Mars opposing each other. This tight configuration of personal planets with Pluto retrograde indicates themes of power, control, oppression, and struggle. For those of with strong cardinal placements – planets or angles in Capricorn, Cancer, Libra and Aries, this may trigger you to take strategic and diplomatic action to challenge antiquated social systems/norms and to confront those who fail nurture, protect or sustain you/your energy. The Pisces Full Moon on the 9/26th brings these issues to the collective level- no one is exempt from feeling the emotional impact of these power struggles.

The house in your natal chart containing Virgo will be activated this season – bringing a practical and detail oriented approach to the themes identified by that house. Teaching, study and writing may also be significant for you this season, especially if you have strong Mercury placements, Virgo rising or 3 or more planets in sidereal Virgo. Read below for a brief overview of themes likely to emerge this season.
